Biological treatment
Biological treatment is administered in the form of injections with an anti-VEGF substance into the vitreous to prevent swelling and to block the formation of newly formed blood vessels. Biological treatment is a targeted treatment, highly effective, and its early application may stop or significantly slow down the progression of the disease. Without the treatment, the loss of the eyesight would become faster and might even lead to blindness.
Application of intraocular injections with an anti-VEGF substance is indicated in patients with the following retinal diseases:
– Wet forms of age-related macular degeneration
– Diabetic macular edema (in patients with diabetes)
– Venous occlusion
– Myopic macular degeneration
